Hello and welcome!

I’m JD, and this is Lamentations of Late.

These are the field notes of my journey as a lifelong blue-collar worker, a father, a soldier, and someone who is trying to see things in as many ways as possible. I won’t pretend I have all the answers, but am willing to learn openly, explain things clearly, and build something useful in the process.

I’m starting from the first principles of the biggest philosophical questions and working towards the biggest struggles we face in our lives today. I’m learning as I go, and invite you to join me so we can help teach each other, take whatever we learn and pass it on.

I post a large article tackling these philosophical issues every Wednesday, as well as a weekly developments, recap, and newsletter every Saturday. As I believe in the mission of this project, I don’t charge for access to these essays.

A Collaborative Journey
Lamentations is for you if -

  • you’re someone interested in learning complex philosophical, political, and social ideas and making them useful to everyday people.

  • you want to explore the systems that shape our everyday lives and figure out how we might change them for the better.

  • you’ve always felt the call to serve something bigger than yourself and help the future, even if you aren’t sure why.

  • you want a space to discuss these difficult and radical ideas without pressure or judgement.

The lament is the expression of suffering when facing an indifferent and senseless world. It is the refusal to submit to the senselessness, a stubborn insistence on shouting one's humanity into the void.
